Welcome to Marvelous Sur. Whether visiting or living here, we have tours and meetups to take you on. There are chances to go on a farm walk, watch the Dhows being built, head to a museum to learn about traditional Omani items, visit the marina, and enjoy the sunset from the watchtower. Read about the options below.
Corniche tours
We will meet at the white coffee shop or Joma Cafe next to Al Hawash restaurant. First, we will walk along the corniche and view the watchtower and lighthouse. We can go inside if you want to go to the Dhow factory to see how they make wooden boats. The cost is 1 rial per person. We can continue walking over the bridge to the watchtower to catch city views. Drinks and snacks at The White Coffee Shop or Joma Cafe are possible after the walk.
Walking to the watchtower for sunset
Meet at Phenuq Cafe at 4:15 pm to begin the walk to the watchtower in Al Ayjah. Along the way, notice the dhows in the water and the fishing boats passing by. We will continue walking over the bridge and go to the watchtower. Take some pictures while waiting for sunset. Walk back to Phenuq after sunset.
Marina walk
When visiting the marina, it’s hard not to notice the traditional dhows. Visitors can walk along the 1.5km pathway and look at the different wall paintings. The fish market is also inside the marina. I suggest going to the market at the weekend early to watch the dhows come in and deliver the caught fish. The fish market opens at 7 am. We can choose a meeting point, depending on the option you pick.
Souq tour
The souq sells clothing, jewelry, perfume, and more. One option is to walk through the souq to shop and browse. For those who like doors, we can walk near the souq to look at various traditional wooden doors before shopping. We can meet around 5:00 pm if you want to take pictures of the doors first. Or, if souq shopping is the only thing you want to do, we can meet later. Check @marveous_sur to arrange a time.
Al Ayjah
Walk through a few alleys to look at traditional doors and old traditional homes. After going around, we can make a stop at the lighthouse. Head to the Al Rabban museum across from the lighthouse to learn about traditional Omani clothing and maritime history. The museum is open in the morning from 9:00-11:00 am and 4:30-6 pm. The museum costs 2 rials for foreigners. If you are interested in stopping at the museum, we can arrange to go there before visiting the lighthouse.
Farm walks
Another option is meeting at the Dam and walking to local farms. The owners are always welcoming, and the farms are a good location for sunset. The walk is about four kilometers.
Other options
If you want to drive about an hour from Sur, We can plan a trip to Siq Village in Al Kamil. The short walk through the farms and then another twenty minutes will bring you to a turquoise pool of water. It is easy to swim here. After seeing the village and if there’s time, a visit to a traditional museum and a fort, about twenty minutes away, is possible.
